That sentence appears on our calculator pages for a reason. Homestead Toolbelt turns published planning rates into interactive estimates. Real farms are messier than mid-range tables. Breed, climate, soil tests, forage quality, parasite load, weather, and management can move results a long way from a calculator default.

Not veterinary, agronomic, or engineering advice

Nothing on this site diagnoses animals, prescribes medication, certifies a structure, or replaces a soil laboratory, a licensed professional, or your county extension agent. If livestock are sick, call a veterinarian. If you are building a barn, follow local code and qualified design. If you are preserving food, follow current tested processes from USDA, the National Center for Home Food Preservation (NCHFP), or your extension — not a jar-count planning table alone.

Where the numbers come from

Agricultural constants used by our calculators live in typed data files under this project. Rates are chosen as plausible mid-range planning values drawn from cooperative extension-style standards and widely published husbandry and gardening references (for example, typical layer feed intake, coop space rules of thumb, row spacing, and incubation day counts). Each calculator page shows its assumptions and, where helpful, the math so you can see what was assumed.

Extension recommendations vary by state and are updated over time. Our figures are planning aids, not a claim that every land-grant university publishes the identical number. When your local bulletin disagrees with a default here, prefer your local bulletin for decisions on your property.

Safety-critical topics

Food preservation, livestock medication and withdrawal times, pesticide labels, electrical work, and load-bearing construction are safety-critical. Use primary official sources. Calculators that touch harvest volume, jar counts, or water capture are inventory and planning tools — they do not publish process times, dosage charts, or building stamps.
